How to get there

Oulanka National Park is located 50 km north to the town of Kuusamo and 40 km south to the municipality of Salla. The closest villages are Käylä, Juuma and Hautajärvi. Contact our customer service personnel and we will gladly assist you in planning your trip to Oulanka.

By Car
Kiutaköngäs Rapids and Oulanka Visitor Centre in the centre of the National Park can be reached by car. From Kuusamo take Road E63 (road 5) for 38 km towards Kemijärvi and turn right onto road 950 towards Salla. Drive 7 km and turn onto Liikasenvaaran tie (road 8693) at Käylä. It is 13 km from the intersection to the Visitor Centre. There are signposts to the Visitor Centre from Road E63.

When coming to Juuma in the southern part of the park, take Road E63 for 36 km from Kuusamo towards Kemijärvi. Then turn onto road 18897 towards Juuma Village. There are signposts from Road E63 to Juuma Village.

When coming to Hautajärvi in the northern part of the National Park from Salla, take road 950 towards Kuusamo for 41 km. When coming from Kuusamo, take Road E63 towards Kemijärvi for 38 km and turn right onto road 950 towards Käylä.

Tip: Visitors can leave their cars at Ruka Ski Resort and take a coach to the starting point of hiking trails.

By Public Transportation
Coaches travel to Oulanka National Park from Salla and Kuusamo. There is regular service to the villages of Käylä and Hautajärvi next to the park. The Karhunkierros Trail Bus transports visitors to trail starting points. The basic route of the bus is via Ruka and Käylä to Salla. Karhunkierros Trail Bus routes are a combination of regular bus connection services, which lead to the National Park.

The closest airport (www.finnair.com) is in Kuusamo.

The towns of Oulu, Rovaniemi and Kemijärvi can be reached by train. The closest railway station is in Kemijärvi, 130 km from Oulanka National Park. Timetables here (www.vr.fi).

Coaches travelling from Oulu to Kuusamo depart about every two hours.

Coaches (www.matkahuolto.fi) travel from Kemijärvi to Salla and Kuusamo.

Visitors can get to spots along the Karhunkierros Trail (Ruka, Juuma, Kiutaköngäs/ Oulanka Visitor Centre, Sallantie Trail starting point at Ristikallio parking area and Hautajärvi Visitor Centre) by taking the Karhunkierros Trail Bus.
