Benefiting Nature
The whole ethos of PAN Parks is aimed at helping protect Europe’s Wilderness for future generations.
The primary requirement for each PAN Park is to ensure that management of the area aims to maintain and restore key natural ecological processes. Some of the parks are zoned and in that case they must have a ecologically un-fragmented core zone where no extractive use is allowed. These areas provide havens for nature of all kinds from the smallest micro organisms to the largest bears to flourish safely.
PAN Parks actively works with the park managers to promote best practice in nature conservation. The verification process helps identify opportunities for the parks to improve their nature conservation activities.
Membership of PAN Parks is a valued status and can often help the park managers argue against activities that could be harmful to nature in the parks.
Through generating funding from grants and our business partners we can support a range of conservation related activities in the parks. This external support helps the park authorities expand their practical activities.
The sustainable tourism development process helps ensure that tourism whilst providing economic support for rural communities, it does not result in harmful impacts on the protected areas. By providing alternative sources of income to these communities it helps reduce the pressure for exploiting the parks natural resources.
This is why taking your next holiday to a PAN Park and using local partners can help protect Europe’s wilderness whilst giving you a holiday to remember. Click here to start looking for your PAN Park.
